More of the same from Patrick this month. He's a happy, active toddler who's into something new every day.
Still not much talking out of the boy. He calls everything "da-da" and says "hah-lah" when the phone rings or as he holds something up to his ear. He communicates mostly by pointing and grunting "uh-uh-uh." Quite insistently, as he knows what he wants and gets frustrated if we don't respond to his demands. Distraction doesn't work so well anymore.
We've been trying to sign with him for a while now. He consistently signs "more" when eating, but has expanded it to mean just about anything from "read to me" to "open this." Every other sign is greeted with a blank stare.
He understands a lot of what we say to him, and is starting to follow directions. He'll pull pajamas out of the drawer when prompted, run to the appropriate door to go "outside" or "upstairs," and try to open the fridge when asked if he wants some milk. He loves to find his nose and his belly button, and he'll reach for his coat or hat when asked.
Patrick's favorite toys these days are books, balls, and blocks. He loves to bounce balls and roll them down his slide, but hasn't mastered kicking yet. His favorite books are "Wake Up, Papa Bear," "Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?" and "Let's Go On a Bear Hunt."
Sleeping continues to go well. After the time change, we shifted his schedule so he now goes to bed around 8-8:30, waking up between 7:30 and 8:30. He takes a nap around noon, often as long as 2-3 hours. Now that he's completely weaned, he goes to the crib with a grumble sometimes, but settles down quickly. His friends Z the sheep, Pig, Pooh, Eeyore, the hippo and the duck, and his alien blanket keep him company. The big news is that he slept through the night and even napped in the pack & play on a recent visit to Maine!
Eating continues to be a stuggle. He has a good appetite, but is very picky. He won't touch vegetables, and just pokes at anything unfamiliar. Day after day he eats tofu, raisin toast, veggie sausage, waffles, eggs, cheese, grapes, bananas, and apples.
Our little monkey loves to walk up and down stairs (with help), and climbs up his indoor slide and new swingset ladder (without help). We found this swingset on Craig's List and are busy designing a treehouse structure around it.
We still get together with the Yoga Boys from time to time, and with our local friends from the library storytime and the Wednesday playgroup.
