Pancakes

It doesn't get any better than breakfast in hand-me-down Red Sox jammies, a yard sale Thomas backpack, and Daddy's baseball cap...

Memorial Day Parade

We enjoyed our annual meet-up with Chuck, Amy, and Annie at the town parade. Patrick was in his glory, as he saw many of his favorite things: ambulances, fire trucks, and baseball players. It took him a while to figure out why people were throwing candy at him...

An Unexpected Turn of Events

Feeling funny Wednesday afternoon, Robin phoned her OB's office and was told to come in the next morning. With Patrick in tow, she drove to Troy for a check. Sure it was nothing, it seemed like a waste of time, but better safe than sorry.

Dr. Bloss was similarly unconcerned... until he did the exam. At 2-3 cm dilated, 50% effaced, Robin was in preterm labor at (almost) 26 weeks, and was sent directly to the hospital.

Michael dropped everything and met them at St. Peter's. Robin was put on medication to stop the (painless, irregular) contractions, and was told she'd have to take it easy for the rest of the pregnancy -- no more picking up Patrick. She'd probably be admitted overnight for observation.

After an ultrasound, however, things suddenly got more serious. The scan confirmed that the "incompetent" cervix was significantly thinned out, and Robin was immediately put in the "trendelenberg" position (head down, feet up), on bedrest in the hospital for at least the next six weeks. The goal is to keep the weight of the baby off the cervix so it doesn't thin/open any more, and the baby can stay put.

The good news is that the baby is perfectly fine. It measured big for its age, at 2 lbs., 3 oz. Heart rate looks great, and it's kicking like crazy. It's just way, way, way too early to be born. Besides, no Dailey is ever early, so we are very confused.

The bad news is that Robin has never been called incompetent before. None of us are crazy about that, as Patrick knows Mommy is very competent! Even more so with all the blood now rushing to her head!

So we're taking things one day at a time -- each day that passes is one day that the baby continues to grow. The outpouring of love and support has been overwhelming, and we are so grateful for all of the offers to help.
