May was a great month. We've had beautiful weather and spent most of our time outside. We finally had our fence installed, so Patrick can spend hours poking around at the rock pile, throwing balls for Llama, blowing dandelion seeds, picking up pinecones, and climbing off and on the deck. He loves to venture out of the confines to inspect the garden or sit in the middle of the water line, digging out rocks.
He still loves to cuddle up on a lap with a good book, but we're spending so much time outside these days that he's reading less than he used to. His newest favorite is "All About Me" because it points out body parts, a game he's enjoyed for a while. Another new one is "Sesame Street Firehouse," surprising because it's a long book that he will sit still for.
Patrick finally has a word! He says "ball" every chance he gets. Since he loves to throw and kick, this happens a lot. He'll still say "Mama" and "Dada" when prompted, but "Bah" is the only thing he'll consistently say on his own. He signs "more," "milk," "all done," "grapes," "hat," and "please." He's great about following directions, and is showing definite opinions abut things. He'll shake his head "no" to two shirts, then reach excitedly for the third...
We spent some time touring daycares, and found a great one. Patrick will be going to Bethlehem Preschool on Wednesdays and Fridays, starting in the fall. It'll be great fun for him to play with other kids, help with social skills, and allow Robin to work a bit more. In the meantime, Kristie has started spending three afternoons a week with Patrick.
He went through a "mommy clingy" phase, but is getting better. Once he warms up to his surroundings, he's ready to work the crowd, toasting "cheers" to everyone in the room...
He has at least one new tooth, the bottom left cuspid. He won't really let us get in there to check for the others. He bit Robin twice in one day, but luckily hasn't repeated it. It was very strange -- he didn't seem to be angry or frustrated, but just experimenting.
We've tried to limit Patrick's exposure to tv, and he hadn't shown much interest anyway, until recently. He'll run to the cabinet and beg to watch the "Rachel show" (Signing Time).
We're still going to Music Together class on Tuesdays, playgroup on Wednesdays, Storytime at the library on Thursdays, and getting together with the Yoga Boys from time to time. The weeks just fly by!
